We all know that publishing on the web is not the same as publishing on paper. But some of us, including myself, may have initially ignored the allure of endlessly altering our own previously published material until eventually erasing it with the click of a button.
We can’t do that with what we’ve previously published on paper.
But, here on Medium, as on any other publishing platform with similar features, we can be as perfectionist as we like, even after we’ve published. And, if we evolve and our existing digital content no longer reflects our current stage of evolution, we can remove it with a single click and start over.
I am now tempted to apply this concept to an extreme: having only one story published at any one time, and editing it as much as I want until I’m satisfied with it. Then, when the need arises to write something else, simply override it by altering the title, tags, and whatever else has to be modified to match it with the new content. Is it possible that I’ve gone insane? Perhaps, but what is a Medium story, if not a digital placeholder for…
